Aloha Beach Summer Surf Camp 2009

If you’re looking for a fantastic summer camp for kids ages 4 through 15, Aloah Beach Camps is a great summer 2009 kids camp choice! I just got some fantastic action fotos of 5 kids riding the waves with smiles as big as miles!  Hop over and check out the pictures here:  Kids at Aloha Camp.

Sponsored by Billabong Surf Camps, Aloha Beach Camp is L.A.’s most comprehensive aquatic sports summer day camp with surfing, boogie boarding, jet skiing, wakeboarding, ocean safety lessons and more for kids and teens ages 4 to 15.

Aloha Beach Camp offers two age-appropriate day camp programs under the Aloha Beach Camp name. “Keiki Camp” the first beach day camp designed exclusively for younger kids ages 4 to 7. “High Action Camp” is for older campers 8 to 15.

Aloha Beach Camp’s Keiki program, located at Paradise Cove in Malibu, introduces younger children to the beach and aquatic environments while helping them feel safe and comfortable in the ocean. Daily activities include boogie boarding, ocean safety and swimming lessons, beach hikes, tide pool exploration, ocean ecology, group sand games and more.

Aloha’s High Action Camp is designed for older kids who love the beach and who’ve outgrown the typical day camp scene. Discover the thrill of surfing, jet skiing, boogie boarding, tubing, boating, wakeboarding, and related aquatic sports you won’t find anywhere else.

While the Keiki Camp and High Action Camps serve different age groups, each offers safe, fun, instructional aquatic activities, convenient day-by-day enrollment, free daily transportation to and from camp, top-notch staff and equipment, low camper-to-counselor ratios, impeccable safety records, American Camp Association Accreditation and a 2-day, risk-free, no-questions-asked 100% money-back guarantee.

Aloha Beach Camp is owned and operated by Eric and Teri Naftulin, husband and wife, since 1999. Eric is the on-site camp director, and Teri runs the camp office. Aloha Beach Camp is celebrating its 10th anniversary season in 2009, operating Monday through Friday from June 22 through August 21, so make sure you join the fun!

UC Davis Young Scholars Program 2009

Here’s a great summer camp for teenagers in the 10th and 11th grade of high school - the UC Davis Young Scholars Program!  The purpose of this fantastic science summer camp is to expose 40 high potential high achieving sophmore and junior year high school students to a variety of research experiences in the fields of biology, agriculture, and environmental sciences.  A major part of this youth science summer camp is to expose youth to biological science research and to understand its’ impact on interdisciplinary impacts on other fields of research.

Each UC Davis Young Scholars science summer camp student will undertake a 6 week research project in a university lab, and participate in 2 week lecture series under the mentorship of university research faculty.  These lectures will be supplemented by weekend excursions to Lake Tahoe, the Pacific Ocean, and Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park, and more.

At South Lake Tahoe, students will tour the Lake Tahoe Research Station, and travel out on Lake Tahoe on the UC Research Vessel. After the tour the summer camp kids will travel to Kings Beach for a fun afternoon of volleyball, swimming, and a picnic on the beach.

For the weekend trip to the Pacific Ocean, students will tour the Bodega Marine Lab and Ecological Preserve. The tour will be followed by lunch on the beach north of Bodega Bay.

Lots of fun activities are planned for the trip to Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park. The sUC Davis cience summer camp youth will travel to MacArthur-Burney Falls State Park for lunch before proceeding to the Subway Caves and setting up camp at Butte Lake Campground. Before dinner, students will take a hike to Cinder Cone. After breaking camp on Sunday, the participants will climbed Mt Lassen or hike to Bumpass Hell Sulfur Hot Springs (weather and snow conditions permitting) before returning to Davis in time for dinner.

These kids will also enjoy a weekend trip to Monteray Bay Aquarium and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, where they will visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium on historic Cannery Row in Monterey before travelling to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and pier. Students enjoy three hours at the Boardwalk and beach with a picnic dinner, shopping, games and rides.

A trip to San Francisco will be fun for the kids at camp -they will tour Alcatraz Island before spending several hours at Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Warf. The youth will then enjoy a picnic dinner at Fort Point/Crissy Field before walking north across the Golden Gate Bridge and a returning to campus

This summer science camp will house youth on campus at UC Davis (including most weekends.) The housing is in newly renovated dorms, sleeping two students per room. Males and females are housed on separate floors. Kids eat three great meals per day in the cafeteria, with all food provided also on field trips.

Summer camp participants should plan to bring bicycles (and locks and helmets) to the summer camp on campus for the six weeks. UC Davis is located on the edge of the town of Davis, a very bike friendly community. An extensive system of bike lanes, and bike trails offer relatively uncongested bicycle access to anywhere on campus or in the city. Transportation will be provided by UC Davis for the field trips. Participants should not bring motorized vehicles to summer camp.

All students will be enrolled in 5 Units UC Davis University group study credit.  Tuition, room and board are included in the overall fees of $4800 for the 6 weeks.  Tuition assistance for the UC Davis Young Scholars Program 2009 science teen summer residental camp is available.
